OSCE license

I have a customer called me asking why he could not see (from the management console) his OSCE client installed on few of his servers with Windows 2000 server platform. I encountered similar problem before and it was related to the activation code and license. So this time, I did the same thing. I asked the customer to screen shot the summary page of the OfficeScan management console.

Indeed it's exactly as what I thought. Look at the screen shot where I circled in red. It shows the Desktop Antivirus. That means the OSCE client must be installed on non-server platform i.e Windows XP, 2k, Vista & 9x (for 7.x version). If you install OSCE client on a server platform, the installation went through however you won't be able to see it in the management console. Also, when you try to perform 'Update Now' from the client console, you will get the following error.

To remedy the problem, you need to upgrade your license to Desktop/Server Antivirus. You need to tell your vendor accordingly in terms of your requirement to protect workstation and servers too. :-)

Case closed.
