For those who are new to Trend Micro Products, hopefully this topic will give you an insight on what will be covered during the 4 days training. As mentioned earlier, we will be covering 6 products ;
1. InterScan Web Security Suite (IWSS)
2. InterScan Messaging Security Suite (IMSS)
3. ScanMail for Exchange (SMEX)
4. Server Protect for NT (SPNT)
5. OfficeScan Corporate Edition (OSCE)
6. Trend Micro Control Manager (TMCM)
Gateway level
+++++++++++
At the gateway level, we have IWSS to protect us from web threat via HTTP and FTP traffic. Besides scanning for viruses, worm, spyware, phishing and other malicious contents, IWSS also can do URL filtering, URL blocking, file blocking and HTTP Quota.
Another gateway level product is the IMSS. Protecting your web traffic alone is not enough. We need to protect mail traffic as well. IMSS able to scan SMTP and POP3 traffic. Emails content and attachments are being scanned for viruses, spams and malware threats. If you don't want your users to receive chain emails or those unproductive x-rated content and promotions, IMSS comes with content filtering which you can create policies and enforce accordingly to your users.
Messaging level
+++++++++++
SMEX is a messaging level product that gives protection to your Exchange server. It scans emails, database and public folders. SMEX scans emails sent internally. That is why you still need SMEX though you already have IMSS in your network. Same as IMSS, SMEX offers antivirus, antispam and also content filtering features.
Desktop + Server level
++++++++++++++++
OSCE is the product that protects your desktops and servers*. It gives antivirus protection, personal firewall and IDS*. With the new OSCE version 8.0, it comes with Web Reputation service. This is a great feature that blocks users from accessing potential malicious website even if the users are outside of your corporate network. If you have OSCE 8.0 installed (and if you think your WRS feature is enabled), try to browse to this website.
You should be blocked.
* depends on your license.
SPNT is another server level product. You will install SPNT onto your Windows platform servers. It gives protection from virus, macros, scripts and other malware threats. Since OSCE now supports installation on server OS platforms, SPNT is no longer that popular. Unless if you have mix environment , Netware OSes.
Management center
+++++++++++++++
TMCM is the centralized management console. You can actually view your virus statistics, product status, reporting and management from TMCM. Let say you have IMSS, OSCE and IWSS installed in your network. You don't have to login to individual console to get the status of each products. TMCM will do just that - providing you with the information that you need.
Hope you have the rough idea now about the course syllabus. :-)
